Monte Alban ancient Zapotec city

Monte Alban, located 10 km from the city of Oaxaca, was known by the Zapotecs as “Dani Baá” or Sacred Mountain, and later as “Yucucui” or Cerro Verde by the Mixtecs who inhabited it in the 12th century. This ancient city was home to several cultures, beginning with the Zapotecs and later the Mixtecs, although the exact origin of its first inhabitants is still a matter of debate among archaeologists.
